About Us

What is Kezira?

Born to Eritrean parents, Kezira Cafe owner Nigist was raised in the Ethiopian city of Dire Dawa. Known for tolerance and a closely knit community spirit—Kezira is a celebrated neighborhood of the city. Nigist named her restaurant after Kezira to inspire this spirit of togetherness.

About the Owner

With family roots in Ethiopia (Addis Abeba, Dire Dawa) and Eritrea—Nigist brings recipes to your table from all these communities and many generations.

After immigrating to the United States and employed as a waitress in North Carolina, Nigist was passionate to open her own restaurant. She took the leap when a restaurant space opened, and fulfilled her dream. Later in Seattle, Nigist opened the Rose Cafe. She brought many elements of the Rose into the family-run Kezira Cafe—expanding her venue and menu!

Our Personal Touch

Nigist believes that a real family business is one where the customers are also treated as family. Something different, unique, a personal touch—you’ll experience the restaurant’s creativity and community spirit not only in the cuisine, but also in the relaxed and creative atmosphere. Kezira Cafe also believes in the importance of timeless traditions—waitress wear Kemis, the classic women’s attire of Eritrea and Ethiopia.
